REVIEW
Vakathirivu tries to send out a social message to society, essentially parents, about the possible pitfalls that youngsters find themselves in. The protagonist Vivek is played by newcomer Mohammed Althaf while Muhammed Ali, the director, is also a debutant.
The plot involves Vivek and his sister Veena who rebel against the much-respected teaching couple Vivekanandan (Joy Mathew) and Sathi (Shanthi Krishna) in the village of Mythrimangalam. Vivek, who has just enrolled in a college, is disappointed that the parents do not yield to his demand for a bike. The wrong kind of friendships and other impulsive choices lead the youngster astray and he faces all kinds of troubles.
Actors Joy Mathew, Shanthi Krishna, Subi Suresh, Lalu Alex and Kailash do a good job of their roles. Comedian Binu Adimali manages to extract some laughs but the double entendre and adult jokes could have been done without.
Though the premise of the film is well-intentioned, it hardly rises above the level of the many short films that crowd the Youtube space these days. The problem is with the screenplay which is amateur and predictable. The music, too, is not suitable for a campus movie. The film doesn’t offer either visual richness or an engaging storyline.
